Play (Rizzoli New York, 2020) draws exclusively on Rankin’s archive of photographs of the biggest names in contemporary music.

Divided by theme (“Heroes”, “My Generation”, “Cool Britannia”, “Across the Atlantic”, “Pop Royalty” & “Sounds of Hunger Magazine”), Play collects almost two hundred images of the most influential artists of the last three decades, from David Bowie and Elton John to Pharrell Williams, the Spice Girls, Grimes, and Bjork.

Alongside his photos are anecdotes from Rankin on his work, process, and what it is like meeting and photographing your musical idols.
